Bourbon is made with corn. That much I remembered. I looked it up on Wikipedia and bourbon has to be 51% corn. Scotch is made with barley, but other whole grains can be added. Interesting trivia: Scotch whiskey is the only whiskey that can be made in Scotland.
Yeah, I looked it up too after I had posted, and I was mostly right. It has to do with the ratios of the grains/corn (corn is also another type of grain as it turns out) ratio. Made me think, “who really cares about how much corn the stuff has in it?” Bizarre, I think.
It’s all the same to me, but like I said, I don’t really drink the stuff. To each their own.
The differences between various Scotches and between various bourbons is a large part of what I enjoy about them. Anyone who can’t tell Talisker or an Islay malt from bourbon should just drink cheap vodka.
The one bourbon whose formula I am curious about is Knob Creek, a premium bourbon from the Jim Beam distillary which tastes like a premium Jim Beam (their others don’t).
Les,
Not sure if you are much of a drinker, lord knows I’m not, but I’ve never been able to tell one bit of difference in the two.
I may be speaking out of my a$$ here, but I’m pretty sure they are both sour mash based. Am I wrong?
Both are firewater regardless.
