Alarm/Reminder Function in Windows XP?

Monday, February 19th, 2007 | Dear Lazyweb |

Dear Lazyweb,

Does Windows XP have any kind of alarm clock/reminder type function without running Outlook? I wanted to set an alarm to remind myself of something next weekend, and I can’t figure out how to do it without running Outlook (which I never use at home) and keeping it open all the time.

What about scheduling a task to open Notepad or a text file or something?

I Googled and found these instructions for the task scheduler. Kludgy, but it works for what I need. Gracias!

In general, I find the program “stickies” (first result when you google “stickies”) to be very useful. You can use it to make notes to yourself or to set alarms.

Stickies look pretty cool. I liked this: “Stickies can be attached a web site, document or folder so they only show when it’s on screen.” That’s a neat trick.

I’ll download it. Thanks.

This has bugged me for ages. I never found a solution. Such a common thing, you’d think there would be a solution in Windows.

You could download the Ebay watcher tool and put an auction on your watch list that ends at the time you need reminding and it will open the window 10 minutes before and give you a countdown…

Yea, I thought it was weird how difficult it is. I figured there would an equivalent of the old Macintosh Alarm desk accessory, or the alarm clock on any digital watch or cell phone.

Alarm Clock comes with Plus! Digital Media Edition, predictably there’s a charge. It’s here:
