Obama said what now?
Thursday, January 29th, 2009 | Politics |
“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”
– Barack Obama May, 2008
Hot Air notes the irony of that statement in light of today’s New York Times:
The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.
“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”
And as far as eating as much as you want, Patterico notices Obama’s tastes:
It Was Really Bad When Auto Executives Sought Tens of Billions of Dollars and Flew on Corporate Jets
But it’s cool for Obama to celebrate the passage of a trillion-dollar stimulus package with a celebration that includes wagyu steak. What’s that, you ask? I don’t know either, but it apparently cost $100 for a 16-ounce steak . . . in 2004.
It’s almost as if Obama is just another two-faced politician.

[...] Hope and change. Meet the new boss. [...]
Man, that wagyu has some wicked marbling.
Ah, to be President….
Rustmeister´s last blog post..Super Thoughts
There are some pretty unbelievable lengths that some ranchers go to for getting that marbling too…Like feeding sake to the cattle. I’ve even seen a picture of a suspension system for elevating them, effectively keeping them off of their hoofs, so as to not stress any muscles, causing them to become tough and sinewy.
From Hawaii?? From Indonesia, from Africa - wherever - obviously he never went up Mauna Kea to where the Hawaiian snow is.
Do you seriously think that Obama himself put together that menu or even saw it? I personally hope he is focused on way more important issues like Exxon’s crazy ass profit or Caterpillar releasing another 2,000+ into the unemployment lines.

I keep re-reading Article II, but I can’t see where either of those items is listed as being within the purview of the Presidency. Help me out, here…

Signing off on the menu is in Article II?
I’m curious what people who didn’t vote for him expect of him? What would make him respectable?

If he’s not going to have good ideas, he could at least follow his own bad ones.
Telling people that they shouldn’t drive gas guzzling SUVs when he drove a 300C with a 5.7L Hemi is ridiculous.
Telling them they can’t eat as much food as they want is ridiculous when he eats a $100 steak.
Telling them they can’t keep their themostat up is ridiculous when he keeps his office warm enough “to grow orchids in”.
He traded his Hemi in for a hybrid, right? And the thermostat is one mans opinion of the feel of the room? If you come to my house, you might feel cold at 65 degrees but I’m all hormonal and 65 feels hot to me.
I never got involved in politics before because to me it was nothing but silly arguing. I never voiced an opinion because I wasn’t registered to vote and therefore didn’t feel entitled to engage anyone in political conversation. That all changed when I met Obama almost two years ago and subsequently went on to be a precinct captain for him in Iowa. I really do think he is trying and hope (yes, there’s that pesky word the dems throw around) that he proves himself worthy of the job.
Thank you Axess Denyd (cool name) for your response. I always feel like I’m making a fool of myself when I take part in these discussions. I’m not very good at being eloquent these days. Menopause is HELL on the mind as well as thermostat.
Anyway… Les, my dear friend, can we have a little Katie and Natalie now please

Lisa: what’s galling about Obama is that he’s so willing to throw his countrymen under the bus to appeal to the rest of the world, but then he does exactly what he says is unappealing about his fellow Americans. It’s just basic “do what I say not what I do” hypocrisy.
“I wasn’t registered to vote and therefore didn’t feel entitled to engage anyone in political conversation. That all changed when I met Obama almost two years ago and subsequently went on to be a precinct captain for him in Iowa. I really do think he is trying…”
Ah, the cult of personality thing.
Really, Lisa, what I wish for is that he’d just stop trying…altogether.
I can lead myself around quite well enough, and if he and about 535 of his fellow whores in that other branch of gummint would quit trying to throw the levers of power, just because they can, I’d be forever grateful.
Then we could all stop worrying about who is lining whose pockets.
Get it?
I can only speak to my only opinions and experiences. I don’t think it was the cult of personality thing as I didn’t stand in a throng of thousands and listen to him speak. Well, I did but that was much later. I initially met him as he was kicking off in Iowa in a very small group setting. Six of us I think. Anyway, I like to think I’m a smart gal and can get a good read on people. My sense for my fellow humans has never steered me wrong yet anyway. From Obama I got a sense of calm confidence and honesty and a genuine goodwill towards everyone. Those are the same qualities I strive to put forth and those are the qualities I think we need in a leader. Again, this is just my opinion and we all get those. I love that we still have free speech and can speak our minds.

All animals are equal, except some are more equal than others, right?

No offense, Lisa, but that’s pretty much what is called magical thinking. And that’s what got us where we are with this prez. I share some people’s hope that this guy turns OK ( or at least not so bad ), but I’m buying ammo anyway.
