Bleg: how to cut WordPress’s CPU usage?

My ISP is telling me I still have massive CPU usage. In an attempt to get it under control I’m experimenting with some WordPress settings. The first step was to put the Recent Comments sidebar on hiatus.

I may install a caching plug-in to see if that helps.

Any other ideas for reducing WordPress CPU usage?

The cache plugin is the single biggest improvement you can make to CPU use. You’re on the right track.

Switch hosts to one that doesn’t arbitrarily limit by CPU. What are you on? Blue host? Dream host? They say the sky is the limit but they keep their costs down by limiting by CPU. It’s a scam.

Sounds like I need to try that cache plug-in for sure.

Jon, I probably should have gone into more detail. Even after moving me to a faster server I’m using 19% of the server’s CPU. I can’t blame ‘em for being unhappy about that.

I installed SuperCache. Nothing to it. Now we wait and see if that made a difference.

Did the SuperCache installation resolve the CPU usage issue? Thanks in advance for providing an update.

In my case it didn’t. I think there was some file corruption or database corruption going on. With my site’s traffic level there was just no reason for there to be that much CPU usage.
