I went in for my follow-up visit early this morning. The doc numbed the inside of my nose, cut out the stitches, and put a metal vacuum up my nose to suck up the final junk out of my sinuses. (That last part was as much fun as you’d expect.)
And now I can breathe through my nose again. For the past week I couldn’t, which meant I slept with my mouth open. Every so often my would dry out and I’d wake up. I came home from the doctor this morning and went back to bed at 9:30. I slept eight hours.
I also slept without my CPAP for the first time in several years. I’m hoping the sinus surgery will help my sleep apnea and get me away from the CPAP.
Please continue to write about this.
I’ve been debating surgery but my ENT indicated that surgery doesn’t always work long term (the best he can promise is that I’ll breathe easier through my nose when exercising). That spooked me enough to stick with the CPAP and regular nasal irrigation.
I don’t know that I’d do it for sleep apnea. That’s not why I had it. I had it because I was constantly sick with upper respiratory problems. Last year I had the flu, two months of walking pneumonia, cold after cold, and sinus infection after sinus infection.
FWIW, last night I wound up using the CPAP. Maybe when the swelling goes down and some more stuff comes out I’ll get off of it, but for now I’m back on it.
