Cheap used cell phones in Knoxville?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009 | Misc |

My mother-in-law’s cell phone is kaput. They’re expensive new and I’d rather not sign a new contract to get the subsidized price.

I plan on prowling eBay, but I could swear there’s a place in Knoxville with cheap used cell phones. Anyone know it?

LATER: PDB came through with the solution: Craig’s List Knoxville, which has dozens of Verizon cell phones listed in the past few weeks. Better prices than eBay, too, with no shipping charges or waiting time. PDB for the win.

Isn’t cost just a question of what features the cell-phone has?

We’re not looking for anything fancy. She had a Motorola Razr before. I’d like to keep it under $50.

I can go to eBay, but I’d like to be able to just swing by a shop and pick one up without waiting for an auction to end and the item to ship. The MIL’s getting antsy about not having a phone.

Whoa. I thought of eBay, but I never thought of Craigslist. There are all kinds of cell phones there locally on CL. Looks cheaper than eBay, too.

Actually, I was going to direct you to the ‘Electronics’ section, but I was surprised to see they’ve added a specific cell phone area.

Go to Wally World and buy a pay as you go phone from the same company as moms original pay phone. Open the new phone up. Switch SIM card from old kaput phone into new phone. Congratulations - you now have an inexpensive cell that uses your old plan. No new contract.

Bruce: interestenn. I noticed a super cheap pre-paid Verizon phone on the local Craig’s List. I might try that.
