What would this chair look like?
Monday, August 17th, 2009 | A&E |
I’m reading John Scalzi’s sci-fi Old Man’s War series. In one of the books he mentions they have chairs for aliens whose knees bend opposite of ours. Now I’m trying to imagine what would that chair even look like.

I’ve concluded that it would look very much like a normal chair.
The chair ‘back’ would now be a front, but they would need to have a front, for the same reason we need to have a back.
To put it another way, if you could imagine walking around with your head on backwards, your needs for a chair would not change very much.

“if you could imagine walking around with your head on backwards”
Hey, that’s a darned pretty good way of describing it. Thinking about it that way here’s another idea.
Imagine the back of a regular wooden dining room chair. Now remove most of the wood from one side of the back, down low near the seat, so you can work your (backwards) legs in there and still lean onto the seat back for support.
