MSNBC claims black man is evidence of white people being racist

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 | Media Behaving Badly |

A black guy who doesn’t like Obama shows up at a political protest with an AR-15 rifle and a pistol on his hip. MSNBC runs a clip carefully designed to show the rifle, but not the guy’s black skin. MSNBC reporter says she’s disturbed by “racial overtones” of these “white people” showing up with guns because they don’t like having a black president.

Anyone else getting tired of being called a racist because of the color of your skin? Or more likely because your politics don’t align with the Obamessiah.

Lots of people are covering this today. Ace of Spades has the best video clips.

How is calling Obama ‘Obamessiah’, and screaming about guns at a protest against healthcare different from calling GWB ‘Bushitler’, and screaming about Mumia at a war protest?

I’d say Obamessiah is closer to Shrub than Bushitler. It’s making fun of the ridiculous Obama-worship. Like when MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said he got a “thrill up his leg” listening to Obama’s speech. Or Newsweek’s Evan Thomas saying Obama is “like a god.”

I’m not screaming about guns at a healthcare protest. I’m pointing out that MSNBC used a shot of the black guy that hid the fact he was a black guy, then claimed the people at these events were white people angry about having a black president. You know - they did that thing where somebody tells the truth, except that they reverse all the facts.

Sorry. Not saying you were screaming.

Anyway. lots of people said being against the Iraq war meant I loved terrorists and Saddam Hussein. Or that there were commies at anti-war protests, so therefore being against the war meant you were a commie and hated America. I got tired of that, too.

FWIW, there’s nothing in what I posted that carries an opinion of the protest or whether the guy should have been carrying a gun at a political event. I have an opinion, but it wasn’t presented above. The post was all about MSNBC’s shamefully bad and dishonest reporting of the story.
