Firefox 3.6 does it right

I mentioned one time that there was one thing Internet Explorer did better than Firefox.

When you right-click and select Open Link in New Tab Internet Explorer opens the link in a tab immediately to the right of the current tab. Firefox opens the new tab all the way at the right end of the tabs list. I often keep a lot of tabs open, so sometimes I had to lace up my hiking boots to trek to the new tab.

Firefox on my home PC updated to 3.6 this weekend. The first thing I noticed is that it now opens links in new tabs the same way as IE. Good on the Firefox team for adopting good ideas wherever they find them.

The other nice thing about Firefox is that you can change the way it opens tabs if you don’t like it.

Agreed. I had that turned off within 20 minutes of getting the update. I just wish Firefox didn’t run like crap on a 64-bit machine.

Chrome opens new tabs the right way too, and is way faster than IE or Firefox.

But I still prefer Firefox for AdblockPlus.

Opening to the near side used to bug me with IE but only because it was inconsistent with Firefox. Now that they are the same I guess I’ll just have to find a new complaint. Now let me see, oh yeah some of my plugins are broken like Linky. (Gets on knees and outstretches arms) Nooooooooooooooooo!
