I can’t tell if this bird story is a big deal or not

Here’s a Google map of recent mass animal deaths around the world. Is it something to be alarmed about? I have no idea how common or rare that sort of thing is. It’s a big planet with lots of animals, so I’m not sure whether a few dozen mass deaths of this type are notable.

With our modern access to information from all over the world, maybe it’s just easier to find all of these stories and present them, which leads us to believe they have something in common.
