Nifty > Get Paid $10 to talk 10 minutes

Via an email from Sandy Clark, who got paid to talk about time travel for 10 minutes.

Hi there,

I just got paid for talking about science fiction!

I'm taking part in a study at the University of Pennsylvania that pays $10 for a ten minute phone call. They desperately need male voices. Best of all, you can do this three times over three days, whenever you choose, for $30! It is a linguistic study, so you just chat with a stranger for ten minutes and they record your voice.

They give you a topic. Well lo and behold, my topic today was time travel! I think I probably scared my poor partner to death!

Anyhow, I've pasted the details below. You can win $1000 in one of three drawings they'll be having, Think about it, advance science, make $30, talk with strangers, and maybe win a grand.

The Linguistic Data Consortium at the University of Pennsylvania
(www.ldc.upenn.edu) needs participants for FISHER, a new telephone
speech study to be conducted in the Early Winter 2002-2003. FISHER is
open to all fluent speakers of English, native and non-native alike. In
contrast to our prior regional telephone studies (Switchboard), FISHER
will cover the entire US. The FISHER project will support linguistic
research, technology development and education. All calls will be
recorded for these purposes and we will keep participant identities
strictly confidential.

FISHER participants will take part in 1 to 3 telephone calls talking
for ten minutes to other participants on suggested topics. FISHER
topics can be found at the URL below:

http://www.ldc.upenn.edu/Projects/EARS/Fisher/topics.html

A robot operator will initiate all calls. Participants need only answer
their phones at the times they specify during the registration process.

Participants will be compensated $10 per call. In addition, for each
call made, participants will be eligible for 1 chance at (3) $1000.00
lottery prizes.

UPDATES: You will not be paid for more than 3 calls (10 minutes each).
And you can now intiate your own calls, one call per day. The biggest
news is that they are now paying you to refer your friends. Read more
about this below.

This study is open to any fluent speaker of English in the US. You need
not be a US citizen to participate. You need only have the ability to
answer a phone in the US. If you know of anyone who might be interested
in contributing a few minutes of their time to support research, we
would greatly appreciate your making them aware of this opportunity.

Current needs are male voices. If you have completed your calls you can
now have your husband, boyfriend, friend, cousin, brother, uncle, dad
or son (18 years old) register using your PIN number. They can even use
YOUR phone number.

Couples are invited to join as well. And you can register if you are a
women too, but they desperately need male voices.
