News > Muhammad and the 5 Percent; Anti-Semitism

John Allen Muhammad has been found guilty of murder in the sniper case in Virginia. Some people are noticing that Muhammad was a 5 Percenter:

As the Anti-Defamation League and a few scholars have noted, Five Percenter theory stands behind the apocalyptic visions of race war expressed in the rap music of some of the more influential hip-hop performers. In Goin Bananas, Da Lench Mob raps: "We're having thoughts of overthrowing the government. .. it's open season on crackers, you know; the morgue will be full of Caucasian John Does. .. oh my god, Allah, have mercy; I'm killing them devils because they're not worthy to walk the earth with the original black man I won't rest until they're all dead."

Via LGF. In other news, anti-semitism is making a comeback, even in the U.S.

Glenn Reynolds Roger Simon may be right. This may not be 1946, or 1945, or even 1943. This may be 1938. The war hasn't even started yet, and many people are still trying to appease the bad guys and play the isolationist card. Anti-semitism is on the rise, Americans aren't ready for war, and the British think their Prime Minister is playing up war for political ends.

I'm sorry, but I am not sure what planet they live on where Da Lench Mob qualifies as "more influential hip-hop performers".

I like how they throw some random quote from Chuck D in at the end, just to make sure that it's clear that all black rappers with opinions secretly are plotting to kill the white man.

Anyway, I hadn't heard about this 5 Percent thing, but the community access channel in Richmond was pretty much a non-stop infomercial for some guy named Yahweh Ben Yahweh.

http://yahwehbenyahweh.com/index02.htm

Every time one came on. there'd be a brief introduction by a clean-cut looking guy with a Nation of Islam type bow tie, letting you know about the important, uplifting message that was about to come.

Then YBY himself would appear, and spend about 20 minutes saying some variation of "Yahweh Ben Yahweh has noooo intention of murdering the white race at the beginning of the millenium. Yahweh Ben Yahweh has not been stockpiling huge caches of automatic weapons and high explosives, and he has nooo idea where this rumor started. Yahweh Ben Yahweh loves all of the human race, and merely wants to lead them together into a brighter
future" etc etc.

No joke, that's practically verbatim. Yikes.

Be careful right wing persons. You keep using the word "appeaser" for political reasons a la Newt Gingrich, and you may find it coming back to you.

Some already have -- a lot of the biggest flag-waving hawks for the Iraq war were Milosevic "appeasers".

Why don't we just shelve the term. If you're going to clown around with names like appeaser for people who take a sensible position on Iraq, we're going to start calling GWB appeaser because he's too chicken to invade other non-threatening countries like Canada.

True enough, JS. Both were appeasers. (And I'm not right wing or left wing, Democrat or Republican. Some people have a hard time understanding that, but it's true.)

One odd difference between conservatives and liberals in the U.S. is that liberals are more likely to be interventionist when no U.S. strategic interests are at stake (Bosnia), while convervatives are more likely to be interventionist when strategic U.S. interests are at stake (Iraq).

Krauthhammer has it exactly right. I've been in arguments with my more liberal friends who were against war in Iraq, but eventually got around to saying "We shouldn't have invaded Iraq. Heck, if we're going to invade any place, it ought to be $SomeCountryTheyWereMoreInterestedIn."
