News > Homeless in Key West

Key West was recently listed as one of the five best places to be homeless. Result: more homeless people in Key West. Result: Key West puts up new amenities for the homeless, including air-conditioned tents. Likely result: even more homeless people in Key West. Interested Participant has the details.

I sympathize with the temporarily homeless. I even understand that some homeless have mental problems that keep them from being part of mainstream society, and that they should be institutionalized. However, there's an elastic group of homeless people who are just encouraged by lenient policies like this.

On January 22, 2000, I simply went to Bridgeport Hospital for a prescription for dexedrine because Dr.Wan maliciously cut me off after 4 and 1/2 years. Bridgeport Hospitals' kidnapping me didn't even come close to being a borderline involuntary confinement case. On Feb. 20, 2000, Corrupt Stamford Connecticut cops stole my car off of private property and destroyed my job ( by frightening my boss) - thus making me homeless on the subway. Key West, with it's official "One Human Family" motto seems at war with the homeless. As the community of Key West changes with more and more wealthy second home buyers, the cleansing of the island will continue to evolve. Already mainstream press has picked up on the sanitzing of the islands reputation.

I am considering leaving my husband of almost 18 years. I was thinking key west is as good a place as any. I will be broke, will have no car and virtually have nothing and no where to go when I get there. It seems like there are alot of jobs. I am afraid to be on my own and my street smarts left me years ago.I am straight and do not use drugs of any kind and drink rarely. I do not want to leave but there aren't many options. I am getting older every day and I want to be happy for part of my life and he and I are miserable. this seems to be the only way.
Any advice is welcomed. email me at jodyleewife@gmail.com

Don't come to Key West homeless because you will never be able to afford to live here if you do get a job. It's WAY too expensive to live here so you'll be working just to eat. JUST DON'T DO IT!
