Quotes > Linda Ronstadt

This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know.
- Linda Ronstadt

This is Linda Ronstadt's view of liberal tolerance. We can have a pluralistic society that embraces people of all colors, nationalites, and sexual preferences, as long as there are - you know - no Republicans or fundamentalist Christians, cause hey! we wouldn't want to upset Linda Ronstadt's prejudices.

I agree it sounds silly. Although i'm neither a Republican or fundamental Christian, i'm tolerant of both-however, when you see just how intolerant many Republicans and Fundamental Christians can be, then you can better understand the backlash against them.

Just my two cents.

How tolerant are you really F-Stop with a statement followed by "however when you see just how intolerant many Republicans and Fundamental Christians can be, then you can better understand the backlash against them."

That sounds like a judgment to me.

Do you disagree that many (not all) Republicans or Christians judge harshly against people who are different? And did I state that ALL Republicans and/or Christians do this? In my experience, I have known many people who lay claim to both the Republican/Christian category, who judge quite harshly against people who are different. All of these people have been Southerner's too. Of course, i've lived in the south all my life, so that is the whole of my existance. I'm not saying that no one else judges, because of course, everyone is judgemental in varying degrees at many different moments in their life. Including me. But I try like hell to be rational, and let people prove themselves as individuals, as opposed to just dismissing entire categories of people out of hand. And I also don't make it a point to create a hostile culture/environment for others with laws or dogma.

Is making an observation the same as judging? On the surface perhaps, but what really matters is how you act. And the fact is, many (not all, remember?) Republicans and Fundamentalist Christians are judging people now. Gay marriage, abstinence instead of birth control (not both birth control and abstinence together), in-vetro, but NOT stem cell research, the list goes on.

Observation. Not God's own policy.

I think the reason we Republicans are disturbed by this is because it's another example of how elitist a lot of Democrats are. Most of the democrats I run into truly believe they are more intelligent that any one who is not a Democrat. And their "ends justifies the means" attitude. It's Democrats like Linda R. that give them a bad name!

I am a Republican and a Christian myself and while I honestly do not know for sure if most of her true fanbase was Democrats or Republicans before her statement I do know that she had more Christian fans than Marilyn Manson could ever hope to have.

Is having more Christians for fans than Marilyn Manson a badge of honor?

You would think so but I guess Linda Ronstadt does not think so which is a shame because a lot of her music really is suitable for a Christian to listen to, but I guess she doesn't want Christians for fans, it's a shame really but then does any Christian wanna financially support someone who doesn't want Christians for Fans?

I don't think so, I hope Linda Ronstadt will think about this sort of thing and may God have mercy on her soul.
