News > Hastert on Soros' Drug Ties

Dennis Hastert's allegations of George Soros getting drug money seemed bizarre. Frankly, it was a dumb thing to say the way he said it. As Reason pointed out, why would drug cartels try to make drugs legal: it would destroy their careers.

Professor Bainbridge explains the underlying claim. Soros controls an offshore investment fund with loose disclosure rules. There probably is drug money in the fund, for whatever that's worth. I'm not sure it's relevant, but Hastert's claim does have some basis to it.
