September 18, 2004News > The New Republic Charges Fox News with Running Fake Photo; Gets It WrongMedia cockup week continues. Kevin Drum recently linked to a story in The New Republic, saying that CBS was no worse than Fox News, which had shown a phony picture of John Kerry and Jane Fonda together at an anti-war rally back in the day. Phony picture? That means Fox got burned, right? Turns out that Fox News showed the picture and told viewers it was a phony picture that someone had cooked up. In other words, they showed it as an example of a dirty trick, didn't fall for it, didn't mislead viewers, and didn't use it as the basis of a story. Stuart Buck has the story and the transcripts from the shows. I've been impressed with Drum's integrity in the past, and I expect him to issue a correction. TNR I'm not so sure about. LATER THE SAME DAY: Drum updates his post and links to Stuart Buck's story. Posted by lesjonesComments
