October 01, 2004Home Life > Katie Day 9 - Less Talkin' More Rawkin'
I went back to work today, so this was Melissa's first day by herself. Bad news: Katie stayed up most of the night, and Melissa didn't get much sleep. (Early on I decided to sleep in the guest bed since I was working the next day.) Good news: her mom and Hazel came by this afternoon, and my mom and sister came by around 4:00 and brought dinner. Melissa finally got Katie to sleep after I left this morning by putting her in the car seat and rocking her. I've got her in it tonight, rocking her with my foot while I blog. Around the Web, Siflay Hraka is dealing with a little kid problem I had never considered: drinking pee water in the bathtub. Question for moms and dads about baby swingsWhich is better: the front-to-back swing or the side-to-side swing? I know you can get the kind that do both, but they take up more space. Is there a good reason to get the kind that goes side to side? Rockin' out with babyKatie seems to like her musical mobile. So on my lunch break I went by Disc Exchange and bought her some baby CDs. They're actually kind of nice and atmospheric, and we hope they'll help Katie go to sleep. Any good baby tunes we need to score? Posted by lesjones Comments
First off, let me say that you have one beautiful kid there. Congratulations. Second off, as a parent of two, any level of physical squeamishness will be removed from you before your child is 2 years old. There is no stopping the amount of disgusting things that kids can manage to do to you at the worst possible time.
Never pick your kid up and hold then upside down over your face after shes eaten. Example #2: Before important presentations, do not have your wife bring your kid to work to eat lunch with you, as without a doubt, the strained carrots they are eating will most certainly end up on you. In my case they ended up on my back, and I didnt notice, but the client sure did, 20 minutes into my presentation when I turned around to pick something up. And one other warning, you can only talk to other parents about this sort of thing as people without kids will find this all incomprehensible. Your next challenge in the world of new parent-dom, is simply learning to sleep. Posted by: Frank Martin at October 02, 2004If you don't already have one, invest in a good baby sling/carrier. There were several days that I got Phillip to sleep by carrying him in it while I did household chores. It was about the only thing that worked for him. (I sound like an ad for a baby carrier.) Posted by: Angie C. at October 02, 2004We really liked our "both" one. We gave ours away when Olivia got so big she started bending the arm noticeably. We shed a small tear when it left, because sometimes that thing was the only gizmo that kept us all sane. http://www.fisher-price.com/us/babygear/category.asp?c=bgsw_cs There's a bunch of different models. We used the middle one, the "aquarium" model. Took our daughter about three months to figure out how to make her eyes focus, but once she did the fish were amazing. You guys will probably find this whole category interesting: http://www.amcgltd.com/archives/cat_baby.html Scroll up until you hit her "birth", then read like crazy! I do have to take a moment to introduce you to the best thing that ever happened to me, though. Hayden would NOT sleep until we discovered the Amby Baby Hammock. Go to ambybaby.com for a complete description. Trust me when I tell you that it is well worth the $200. Hayden sleeps through the night in his, getting up once to eat and have his diaper changed. Darrien and I now get plenty of sleep. Posted by: Chyna at October 03, 2004Post a comment
