E-commerce > Web Advertising

Ken Layne comments on the sorry state of Amazon referrals and Google Adwords. Amazon has always been a lousy way to make money. Google Adwords are like the old-style banner networks (WebClients and the like): a way for small-to-medium sites to make small amounts of money.

BlogAds are still the way to go for big sites. Sell prime space on a high-traffic site to individual advertisers. I'm still sticking to my prediction: BlogAds CPMs and click-through rates will eventually crash, just as banner ads did, because BlogAds are just another version of banner ads. This will happen even as blog traffic increases, just as banner ads went south even as Internet traffic increased.

I'm pretty happy with the revenue I am making from Adsense. I agree about Amazon. I do have a captive audience because my blog is particularly targeted towards my students. It is about ecommerce too so readers of this blog might find it interesting.

Keep up the good work.
