Katie is opening her eyes more, using her hands more, and getting more expressive with her face every day. We've seen a couple of expressions that could be smiles (or could be gas). Melissa says today that she was pushing the pacifier in her mouth. Before, she was just supporting it with her hands.

Melissa's lost another 10 pounds or so, on top of the 15 she lost the first week. The maternity shoes that were tight the last month are loose now. Less than two weeks after birth, she's below her pre-pregnancy weight.

Slashdot thread on geekazoid baby monitoring. We have baby monitors, but haven't used them yet because the baby's so small we don't let her get out of our sight for very long. I've thought about buying an X10 video system at some point.

So I assembled Katie's new swing tonight. Man, did that swing put her out! She usually has that fussy, fitful baby sleep where she's an instant from being awake. After the swing ride Melissa lifted Katie's arm and dropped it and it fell straight down. Zowie!

FYI, our doc told us that at that age the smiles were a good sign she was peeing.

It's a standard-issue Graco back-and-forth motorized swing.
