January 14, 2005A&E > Bad Movie Poll: Battlefield Earth, Gigli, or Showgirls?I keep promising myself I'm going to watch one of these movies to see if they're as bad as everyone says. Gigli, the Benniffer disaster, is the most recent. Showgirls seems to be taking on some sort of cult status. Battlefield Earth is the Scientology wet dream starring John Travolta, based on the book putatively written by L. Ron Hubbard (he was long since dead when it was released). It's supposed to be unwatchable. Which should I watch and why? For the purpose of this poll, leave out any campy movies made before 1980.

The classic Ishtar, no doubt about it... Posted by: Deliverance at January 14, 2005I don't think I could ever bring myself to watch any of them. I did successfully sit through Star Trek V, though. I even kinda enjoyed it. Oh, and I **hated** Stargate. Spy Kids 3D Posted by: Barry at January 14, 2005I haven't seen any of them, but if I'm not mistaken, Showgirls has nudity. Might as well get a little enjoyment out of it. Posted by: Thibodeaux at January 14, 2005The Caveman's Valintine 2001 Samuel L Jackson plays a crazy bum that lives in a Central Park Cave. He believes that a man called Iverson is sending down mind control rays. He was a musical prodigy, but now he is just crazy. He is trying to solve a murder mystery, but he freaks out about once evey five minutes. This is painful to watch. Posted by: Tony McGill at January 15, 2005I vote for Showgirls. At least you get to see some nudididity, and it's pretty good nudididity. I haven't seen Gigli, and Battlefield Earth was possibly as bad as the novel. That's quite an accomplishment. Posted by: Kevin Baker at January 15, 2005I think Thib. and Kevin have persuaded me to watch Showgirls with the nudity argument. Posted by: Les Jones at January 17, 2005Its not just nudity, but a pretty serious sex scene too If I remember correctly. Still, its such a bad movie that even the porn factor doesn't really save it.
I would have to say that The Big Bounce was a truly horrible flick. It came out last year with Morgan Freeman. Posted by: Teddy at January 18, 2005Post a comment
