Home Life > Reverse Shoplifting

Melissa is helping her dad upgrade his business's network. She's replacing his aged Win 98 desktops and Windows mumble mumble Server with current Dell equipment and Win XP Pro. The first computer came in Monday, and she got it installed. Then it was time to upgrade his Peachtree Accounting software.

Off she went to Office Depot on Broadway. She skips through the eyebeam doors and WAH! WAH! WAH! Intruder alert. Intruder alert. She's been caught - reverse shoplifting. Cybercriminal that she is, she was bringing in a bought-and-paid-for, five year old copy of Peachtree Accounting with the theft prevention device still in the box. Naughty girl.

Recently my cell phone started setting off alarms, but only when I go in, not when I go out. Then suddently I started setting off alarms when I went out, too. Turns out my jacket had an anti-theft tag on it. It says to cut it off once you've bought the jacket, but it's a dark color and looks like all the other tags on the inside of the jacket. I removed it with a pocket knife's scissors and I no longer set the alarms off when I leave.

Alarms are strange things. She got caught bringing it in but no one noticed when he/she took it out.

I was once strip searched in a sporting goods store when I was 16. Unfortunately, the person doing the searching was a creepy old dude. I was innocent... That time.
