News > More RatherGate Coverage

Broadcasting &Cable reviews the findings of the Rathergate commission and the aftermath from the point of view of a news organization. Their "winners and losers" section is interesting. Via Michael Silence.

Liberal blogger Kevin Drum has interviewed some of the people in the original 60 Minutes story, including Bill Burkett, and tracked down other sources. Here's his reaction after reading the Rathergate commission's report. Excerpt:

As it turns out, I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. But my primary reaction is simple: it's a train wreck. A complete disaster. You have to read the whole report to get the full flavor, but the nickel version is simple: it's unbelievable that this 60 Minutes segment ever got on the air.

Rathergate got on the air because Viacom wanted to hurt Bush.

Redstone has been an America basher for years. He encouraged the Rathergate smear to defeat Bush. He had Dick on the panel because of the bad blood between Dick and the Bushes.
