News > German Govt: Be a Prostitute or Lose Your Benefits

UPDATE February 7: Snopes says the story below isn't true.

Via the Telegraph. "A 25-year-old waitress who turned down a job providing "sexual services'' at a brothel in Berlin faces possible cuts to her unemployment benefit under laws introduced this year."

There were a couple of ladies in my office defending this. Fast as lightning they were reprimanding me. If'n I was agin it, then it must be because of my backward, knuckle-dragging attitudes about sexual morality.

Well that is until I put it differently. "So what you are saying is that a troglodyte like me (but working in a government office) ought to be able to tell you what to do with your body?"

All of a sudden, things seemed more complicated.

As Richard Feynman might have said: Story's definitely bunko. I just blogged a correction, news courtesy Xrlq. Be careful about trusting the Daily Torygraph.

My blog is new; you're the first one I'm adding to my blogroll. Congrats!

Your email pointer doesn't work. White print on black is rather hard to read, and flickers when I scroll. Otherwise it's great!

Thanks!

The story seemed a bit UL-ish, though the Telegraph had an awful lot of specifics and names (which these things usually lack). I wouldn't be surprised to see it's a UL.

The email link actually goes to a .GIF of my email address. I don't put the email address anywhere on the site for fear the spam harvesters will get it.
