East Tennessee > Pat Head Summitt or Phil Fulmer: Who Makes More?

Melissa and I have a bet. She thinks Pat Head Summitt makes more money, I think Phil Fulmer does. Anyone know?

Fulmer now earns $2.05 million.

Summitt signed a contract extension last year for $824,500.

No way they would ever pay Summit more than Fulmer. No matter how many wins she might have and how great a coach she might be, simple economics dictate that the guy bringing in the most $$$ gets the most $$$. Womens basketball, for all the media's hype, simply isn't that profitable. Sure, its good for the school, but it just doesn't bring in the KaChing. Just look at how much of a (not) success the Women's BBall HOF has been.

That said, I know back in the day, I always heard rumours that Pat Summit made more than Alan Houston's dad (his name escapes me right now).

My wife is a rabid Lady Vols fan. Last night I sent her off to the game where Pat went over the top in wins. Mel came home a little past 12. I'm still wondering if I have earned any "stay out late with the guys" points from this.

Whoa. Good links, Brian.

top: that was my reasoning, too. No doubt that Pat Head Summitt is the greatest women's basketball coach ever, but women's basketball just isn't as popular as football.
