Population > Australia's Incentives for Having Babies Pays Off

Australia had more babies born than they've had in 14 years, thanks to government incentives for having children. From AP news. It won't be long before European countries will have to follow Australia's lead to reverse their population declines.

It will be interesting to watch the European governments try to encourage more births. They'll run smack into resistance from the environmental 'end-of-the-world' extremists and planned parenthood and abortion advocates claiming overpopulation. I'm personally having a hard time imagining the primarily leftist governments promoting families and family values.

Australia did not need to encourage more babies, they could have just loosened their immgration policy, if they wanted more people.

One of the reasons australians use to justify there limited immgraition, is because of limited resources (they are nearly sitting one the border of china and india, so it is a fair arugment. BTW the pop. is around 20 mil), but if they are encourging more austrilian babies then they immgration policy seems a little racist.

"if they are encourging more austrilian babies then they immgration policy seems a little racist"

Not wanting to outsource their reproduction is racist?

I'm sure your knee-jerk reaction is the one that will prevail in Europe for a long time, possibly so long that it will be too late to save themselves. The Europeans are likely to be so reluctant to any accusation of racism - and so quick to accuse their political opponents of racism - that they'll let other cultures overtake them through immigration.

You mean that Australia should go with non-integrating Moslem immigrants like EUrope has?

Shouldn't somebody be allowed to learn from the experience of others?
