Seventies > Land of the Lost Movie Coming

Land of the Lost movie starring Will Farrell. Geez, I'll go see it, but I wonder how many other people will? Via jwz.

UPDATE: Jonah Goldberg notes that in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Will Farrell plays Federal Wildlife Marshall Willenholly. As in "Marshall, Will and Holly / On a routine expedition / Met the greatest earthquake ever known / High on the rapids / It struck their tiny raft / And plunged them down a thousand feet below / To the La-a-and of the Lo-o-ost"

UPDATE CONT'D: According to this story, Adam McKay, who directed and co-wrote Anchorman, will direct the movie. That's a good sign. I liked Anchorman.

I have fond memories of some really bad shows -- Shazam, Electra Woman, Kiss and the Phantom of the Park, etc. I remember thinking the one where the family roamed around post-apocalypic America in their big RV was particularly cool. But I'm apparently a minority of one, though, cause I always thought Land of the Lost sucked. I never could figure out why everyone else watched it.

I loved Land of the Lost. I've even got one of the DVDs. One thing I didn't notice as a kid is that parts of the show are on videotape, and parts are on film. The dinosaur chase scenes, for instance, are filmed differently from the rest of the show.

Was the post-apocalyptic show Ark II? That was the one where the three scientists and their monkey travelled around in a big futuristic RV and their leader, Jonah, occasionally flew around in a jet pack. It's hard to not like a show with a monkey and a jet pack.

That's the one. Wow, I'd forgotten all about the monkey. It's little touches like that that make for truly quality TV . But I don't think even a jet pack would have saved LotL. It was just the most gawd awful boring show ever.

While we're on the subject of post-apocalyptic dystopias -- I was watching the West Wing a couple of months ago, and it looks like they're going to have Alan Alda to be the new Republican president for West Wing Mach II. Seeing as how they tapped Martin Sheen the first time around, you know who would have been the absolute perfect person to replace him? Charlton Heston. I would definitely watch that.

Boring? They had battling T. Rexes, whistling Sleestaks shooting crossbows, and a talking monkey boy named Chaka. Waddya want - frickin' laser beams on their heads? :-)

I'm very nervous about a Will Ferrell/Adam McKay-led Land of the Lost. I just see this turning into a farce, and that would just about send me over the edge if they did that to my precious "Land"..

Land of the Lost is the first kid show I can remember that fit the cliche "The first season was awesome. Great writing, scary effects..."

I won't even bother with links - a quick Google will give you more stuff about 70s live action shows than you could read in a lifetime.

For the most part those shows were some of the most creative ever made. Some had regrettably short lives like Run Joe Run, and Bigfoot & Wildboy. Others had *blessedly* short lives, like Mystery Island. But Land of the Lost, that's a classic -- a Great classic. I'd stand in line longer to watch that than to watch Star Wars 3.

My younger sister, Kathy Coleman Bell, played Holly Marshall on Land of the Lost. She's excited about the movie "Land of the Lost." It still baffles her that so many people remember the show. I really hope she and the other main cast members get to make cameo appearances in the movie.

I don't understand why people are so excited about this show.. Like all the Krofts shows, the were awful, just plain awful...Hr Pufnstuff, lidsville, shazam. Terrible acting, writing was horrible, but a good idea for a show. I can't believe there are going to make a movie out Land of the Lost. You know it has to be a comedy..

Spencer Milligan is a big reason Land of the Lost is so great. I was sad to not see or hear his voice on the re-made DVD's (season 1 & 2 only) which are classics in my opinion. Go for it Will Farrell, but please make it a little scary, a little goofy with Pakuni & Sleestaks is ok though, but not a comedy. thanks, Cal

Oh, man! Remember waking up on Saturday mornings...pouring yourself a big-size Cool Whip bowl full of Frosted Flakes or Cap'n Crunch... and watching TV in your dad's vinyl recliner until darn-near noon! Dang, them were the days folks!!! Live action shows like LOTL, Shazam and Ark II were SERIOUS television for a 9 year old back then.

Personaly I take exception to LOL bieng made into a comedy, the show was a drama and was only funny when compared to todays standards. With all the advances in television special effects and script writing LOL could once again be the definitive show by which a new generation can open thier minds to fantasies that live outside the box. My only concern is if they did bring the show back they would make another piece of garbage like the Potters story. If is isnt broken, don't fix it, if you know how create than you can introduce the new without taking poetic licence with the old. But only in a perfect world where the sane hold sway would any of this happen. Soapbox over. Thanks

The bigger question is when is Hollywood going to stop re-hashing old, awful TV shows into feature films? The answer is when we make them. Keep buying tickets to movies based on abominable trash like 'Dukes of Hazzard' and you're going to keep getting such.

Had such a crush on Kathy Coleman as a kid watching LOTL on Sat. mornings... we are the same age born in 1962 - caught her with Wesley on the interview and the end of the Season 1 DVD - she looked pretty damn hot - I think I have a crush again! ;)

I was 3 years old when the original show came out. I can remember watching it on my parents' 9" Admiral B&W television, which was a vacuum tube set and took 5 minutes to warm up and get a picture (they bought it in 1969 - they didn't get a color set until my dad built a Heathkit console set in 1976). The Krofft shows on Saturdays were some of my favorites, and LOTL was my most favorite. I thought the early '90s remake sucked badly - too modernized, even if the SPFX were a little better. I hope the movie sticks to the original story idea! Thinking about getting the original series on DVD in the not too distant future, so my kid (due this December!) can enjoy it, too.

its time...................

Any new word on the movie? Oh, and has anyone found any new "grown up" picks of Kathleen Coleman? I saw the 1999 pic on LOTL.com, she looked cute.

I think Dr. Steel's "Land Of The Lost" song, should be on the soundtrack.

I've been looking all over the internet for info, and the consensus is that no one wants it to be a comedy. They want the straight up sci-fi. I think they COULD do both, if they didn't make Will ham it too much. Yet somehow I don't think they'll pay us any attention. Sigh. But at least we always have the original... if we can stand the acting.
