East Tennessee > D.W. Proffitt and Blount County's Mimosa Trees
In the Daily Times history of Proffitt's, founder D.W. Proffitt's daughter recalls her family's history. It's a good read and gives a vivid picture of Blount County in the early 20th century.
Here's one part of the story that jumped out at me:
D.W. Proffitt reportedly introduced mimosa trees to Blount County as another of his giveaway gifts, one to each family with someone serving in the military during World War II.
Proffitt started a great department store, but darn him for bringing those trees here. I hate mimosas.
