May 19, 2005Star Wars > Episode III D-Day
The big day is here. We've got tickets for the 7:45 show tonight reserved through Fandango. I had thought about going to the midnight show last night, but with my work and Melissa's school decided not to push it. Melissa's mom is keeping the kiddo while we go to the movie. This is the first Star Wars movie I've been to where I had to arrange a babysitter. Now to clear out ye olde Star Wars file Patrick Ruffini has a Bush-as-Vader Photoshop contest. Best nickname for Episode II - Attack of the Clones: "How a Bill Becomes Law in Space." Michelle at A Small Victory is hosting Carnival of the Force. Read Pejman's all-purpose Star Wars rant from 2002. Good stuff. Miscellaneous Episode III reviews found via Slashdot

How does the baby do at the movies? We've never tried. Posted by: SayUncle at May 19, 2005Here's an account of taking her to her first movie, but that was when she was two months. Now that she's eight months and is talking and more easily bored, I'm not sure how it would work. We took her to a wedding and a funeral this past week, and at both places we had to take her outside when she got noisy. We see ourselves needing babysitters more and more as she gets older. Posted by: Les Jones at May 19, 2005I was debating taking my 3 year old to see the movie this weekend . . . but I think I will pass. He is pretty good when we watch a movie at home, but at somepoint he usually pulls out his toys and plays in front of the TV not paying any attention to what we are watching. If it was a cartoon, maybe. I just don't know about Star Wars. My parents didn't think it was a good idea either and reminded me that I was 6 when my Dad took me to see Star Wars. The neighbors kid is 6. There is a HUGE difference between 6 and 3. Even bigger than the difference between 18 months and 3. Posted by: countertop at May 19, 2005countertop, I would not take three year old to see this moive. (unless they wanted to sit down and watch the fininal three right after) The good buys do not win this one, Posted by: countertop at May 19, 2005Not a movie for a 3 yr old, nor many older ones. Took my 9 yo to it yesterday. He thought it OK because of course he's looking for action. For a plotless, rather stiffly acted piece, it was quite depressing and morbid. Well -- it IS about how Darth Vader became Darth Vader, so it ain't gonna be cheerful. Lucas must not have any kids. Vader's wife goes from being not visibly pregnant to being about 3 months so in the space of a day. And is still about 3 months big when she delivers ... twins. And is still about 3 months in size *after* she delivers and dies. Posted by: Dave Hardy at May 20, 2005Dave: yep. and despite the fact she's carrying twins, she's carrying them above her freakin' belly button. There was some grisly stuff in the movie, for sure.
