June 23, 2005E-commerce > Traffic at Price Comparison ServicesWhen E.W. Scripps bought Shopzilla, their press release claimed Shopzilla was the second most popular price comparison service behind Shopping.com, which eBay just bought. That surprised me, since I had never even heard of Shopzilla. I looked around last night and found out that Shopzilla is part of BizRate, which I had heard of and used for years. To see how the comparison services stacked up, I checked their Alexa rank.
Four of those services are in the top 400 Web sites on the Internet in terms of traffic. That translates into millions of visitors. The upshot is that lots and lots of people are comparing prices online before they buy. If you resell online use these services for advertising, and if you buy online use them to save money.
