East Tennessee > New Parkway Drive-in Theater Site

I was adding hyperlinks to the Goofy Trips list, and discovered that the Parkway Drive-in in Maryville has a new page. That site also has listings for the Midtown and Sparta drive-ins.

Drive-ins are great. When I was in law school we used to go to this great drive-in in Randolph Vermont - they always showed double features, had a great big screen, and while they had the crummy drive-in sound boxes next to each parking space they actually broadcast the movie over a low powered FM transmitter (you could only pick it up within 10 feet of the drive-ins entrance and not from any place outside the theater where the screen was visible). It was great, we would head out there with a keg in the back of the car and a little hibachi going on gorgeous summer nights.

Good memories. Its a Great American past time and one of the secrets to a successful courtship.

There needs to be more drive-ins across America. Someone, Johnny Appleseed like, ought to embark upon the mission of brining a drive-in to every county in America.

Do it for the children.

I really enjoy the dusk-to-dawn shows at the Midway Drive In (midway between Athens and Etowah), that they do each holiday weekend. Missed the Memorial Day show, but we're gearing up for a show tonight....

Hey, Tommy. Melissa and I were down Athens and Etowah way today on a Highway 11 tour. Had a wild time at a place called John G's BBQ in Cleveland. I got to talking to him about gadgets he had in the restaurant and he broke out his electric scooter and we took turns riding that around. Pics and movies in the next few days.

Top: you need to go by this guy's place on the way to or from Chattanooga some time. Besides going to his place, you should go see downtown Cleveland. It's absolutely gorgeous, and it's close to cat town.
