Home Life > Katie Goes Swimming for the First Time

Last weekend in Kentucky we took Katie swimming for the first time. She loved it. She liked motorboat and splashing, and Peek-a-boo with mom and dad disappearing underwater was a hit.

On a how-to note, it turns out Huggies makes Li'l Swimmer diapers for swimming. Did you know that? I didn't know that.

The hotel had a swim-through indoor-outdoor pool. I took these on the inside. As soon as the camera opened the cover and extended the lens it fogged up. I could tell from the LCD the lens was fogged, but hoped it would be a cool effect, which it kinda is.

Junior digs the pool. A word on the swimmie diapers, once she's out, take them off. Me and the Mrs. made the mistake of leaving one on for a trip back from my parents. We had to wash the car seat after.

Yes, good advice uncle.

The swimmies filter, they do not contain. I learned that lesson the hard way. And if you can, try to avoid allowing poops in the swimmies. Remember, there designed for filtration (of the yellow kind) not storage and containment.

Also, when we go swimming I usually just get a throw away single use underwater camera for $5 or 6 or so. That way we can get it wet, etc. They take decent enough pictures for what they are. In any case, let the camera adjust to the temperature for a few minutes before shooting.

Thanks, guys. Prior to this the only diaper advice I had came from Jeff Foxworthy: "When the diaper box say 'for 12-15 pounds' they're not kidding. That's all they'll hold."

An underwater disposable sounds fun. I used one on a scuba diving trip almost 20 years ago and really liked it.
