July 27, 2005A&E > "In the criminal justice system..."Jonah Goldbern sez: I just heard a commercial on TV. BWAHAHAHA! Melissa and I went through a heavy Law and Order period when between TNT and some other channel you could watch it like three times a night. I distinctly remember saying, "OK, that's it. Either change the channel or I'm leaving the room. I can't take any more Law and Order." Posted by lesjonesComments
I hate Law and Order and any other quasi legalistic or pseudoscientific, wanna-be new-age-Sherlock Holmes, mini-dramas. The law sucks. It's a win/lose battle. You don't get to nail the bad guy with some Star-Trek-esque explanation of the laws of man or science in order to catch the least likely suspect at the end of the hour. The worst thing about these shows is people try to learn from them, and then they become "experts". The only lessons you get are bad ones that generally aren't true. "Justice always prevails and good triumphs over evil." unfortunately, not true. "I watch so much Court TV; I can commit any crime and get away with it!" Uhh, no, and please don't try. Etc. Etc.
