East Tennessee > Speeding Ticket Frenzy is a Hoax

There's a story going around that cops in Tennessee are on a 30 day blitz to collect 9 million dollars in speeding tickets, and will ticket you for driving just few MPH over the posted limit. The story is making the rounds in email, and the word must be getting out. A friend who doesn't even have a computer told me about it last night.

Blake at Nashville Files says it's a hoax. The state has denied the story. Snopes debunked the same story a few months ago when it was going around New Jersey with an almost identical email.

I hate to tell you, but this isn't a joke. The State of TN is CURRENTLY (as of July 3, 2007)advertising "The 100 Days of Heat" on the radio. I have heard it myself. It is a 100 day period in the summer where there will be increased tickets and increased fines. They have this radio ad playing with some announcer who sounds like he is giving away money. He is upbeat and official sounding, like this is a good thing. After not receiving a ticket for anything in more than 3 years, I personally got pulled over twice in the last week and a half. Guess they will have to write lots of tickets to pay for that air time.
