Tech > New Daylights Savings Time May Cause Glitches

The changes to daylight savings time in 2007 could cause problems for computer equipment in a micro-Y2K scenario. If I had to guess, I'd say that semi-smart equipment that's hard-wired to compensate for daylight savings time will be most affected. Anything that has automatic upgrades - from TiVo to Windows XP - will be fixed well in advance.

There's still the overhead for rolling out the patches for any OS. I guarantee that a lot of that work will happen off shift, and will be overtime to boot. (In our company, Windows Update is disabled, and all OS patches are initiated from the help desk remotely.)

Of course, Microsoft could use the change to leverage companies to move to Vista, which wouldn't really surprise me.
