August 16, 2005News > Bush Thinks a Woman's Place is in the KitchenWell, at least this woman, who's the new White House chef. If Clinton had been the first to choose a woman chef for the White House, the headline would have been "Clinton First to Appoint Minority and Woman as First Chef." Bush, being a Republican, won't get that credit. Of course, since Clinton was a Democrat he rarely gets credit for the free trade idealism of NAFTA, or the small government/individual responsibility push of welfare reform. Likewise, JFK rarely gets credit for his staunch anti-Communism, and hippies don't praise Nixon for creating the EPA and signing the Clear Air and Clean Water Acts. Interesting factoid from the story: Hillary Clinton hired Scheib, a California native and graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, in April 1994 because she wanted to feature American cuisine after years of French cooking ushered in by Jacqueline Kennedy. Again, replace Clinton's name with Bush and imagine how differently people would perceive that same story. Freedom fries instead of French fries - har har! Posted by lesjonesComments
