A&E > Urban Legend about The Wiggles?

wiggles.jpg

Ticketmaster just sent me their weekly concert announcement, and one of the shows is The Wiggles in Nashville. The Wiggles is a Nickolodeon show for the pre-school set - lots of music and dancing and bright colors. Katie has watched it a few times and liked it.

So the rumor someone told me is that one of The Wiggles used to be in a punk rock band. Anyone know if it's true? Oh, please, please let it be true. It would be hilarious.

UPDATE: Steve K. has the skinny in comments. Thanks, Steve.

The Wiggles is a half-hour infomercial for their concerts. An unbelievabley, excrucitatingly painful infomercial.

So the rumor someone told me is that one of The Wiggles used to be in a punk rock band. Anyone know if it's true?

"Anthony Field, Murray Cook and Greg Page met while studying Early Childhood Education at Sydney's Macquarie University. The three began writing children's songs as one of their music projects. They enlisted the assistance of Jeff Fatt, who played with Anthony in the popular 1980's band The Cockroaches, and The Wiggles were born."

"The Cockroaches produced some of the lightest and most saccharine pop around in the mid-80s -- by no stretch of the imagination could it ever be classified as even verging on rock/thrash/grunge."

Steve from Blues Clues, however, did make an album, post-BCs, with several guys from the Flaming Lips.

My son's got the Wiggles movie with Steve Irwin the crockadile hunter. We like to jump around the living room singing and dancing to it. But, he also likes to jump around with me singing and dancing to Ozzy, The Ramones, Iron Maiden, Pat Benatar, The Grateful Dead, and Anthrax.

Anyway, here is a great fan page for the cockroaches at http://www.G E O C I T I E S.com/cockroaches_fan/Pictures.html. (Your filter would accept the real address, it labeled the domain as questionable content)

Anyway, It looks vary wiggly, and not very punk rockish, IMNSHO

Dan Zanes, frontman for The Del Fuegos, is now doing music for kids. He is either about to play at the Tennessee Theater, or just played there. Some might consider The Del Fuegos a punk band, though certainly not the mohawk, body-piercing kind of punk.

What's that got to do with the Wiggles? Not a damn thing. I got my niece to eat a bite of octopus because she likes Wiggles' sidekick Henry the Octopus. She chewed it up and swallowed it and said she liked it, but then everyone made such a fuss when they found out that she wouldn't eat any more.

Heh. They Might Be Giants have a really cool video about what good friends Q and U are.

They Might Be Giants also did a bunch of songs for Warner's "Animaniacs" in the 1990s...

"They Might Be Giants" can currently be heard every morning on the Disney Channel - they wrote and performed the theme song for "Higgly Town Heroes", as well as several other songs for the show.

As for songs about Q and U, TMBG has an album featuring songs about every letter of the alphabet.

I cannot STAND these guys!!!!!!!! But my 10-month-old LOVES them!!

hey, the wiggles rock. Yes, jeff (the one who is always falling asleep) and Anthony (the blue wiggle) used to be in the Cockroaches who were popular in Australia. Also in the band were Paul, anthony's brother,(now the Wiggly manager) and other brother John. the band recently reformed for the ABC tv network anniversary in Aus. Murray still plays in a band not connected to the wiggles when he is home in Aus. Then, they refer to the Wiggles as "the band that shall not be named".

Jay G said: "They Might Be Giants also did a bunch of songs for Warner's "Animaniacs" in the 1990s..."

Not true. The songs were from the album 'Flood' and WB just paid them money to use them. They didn't make those songs for Animaniacs.
