East Tennessee > Roy's Record Shop Going Out of Business

A downtown Maryville landmark will soon be gone.

After 40 years, a Maryville landmark is closing its doors.

Roy's Record Shop, widely renowned in musical circles far beyond Blount County, is going out of business, owner Roy Garrett said Tuesday.

Garrett has run the famous record shop -- which doubles as a mini-museum of sorts with memorabilia-lined walls and scores of autographed portraits -- with his wife Alma since 1965.

``We've been here 40 years, and we both need a rest,'' Garrett said. ``Forty years is a long time without a vacation.''

According to a TV news report this morning, the going out of business sales starts Tuesday. Roy's is a goldmine for fans of country, bluegrass, and vinyl. The memorabilia is great, too. They have autographed headshots of everyone from Dolly Parton to Freda Parton.
