News > NY Times Finally Covers Schumer Scandal

The NY Times has been ignoring a scandal in its own backyard involving NY Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer's office. Other local papers like the NY Post, as well as out of town papers like the Washington Post have covered the story. The NY Times had to be dragged in kicking and screaming after negative coverage in the blogosphere and complaints to their public editor.

After all that the Times finally decided to cover the story. And how does Times reporter Raymond Hernandes open the piece?

National Republicans, who face an uphill battle in their efforts to capture the open United States Senate seat in heavily Democratic Maryland next year, are trying to exploit potential legal problems that Democrats are now suddenly facing in that race.

The Times is really covering themselves in glory here, huh? I wonder how Hernandez would cover other historical incidents?

National Republicans are trying to play the victim card after an incident last night involving President Lincoln and a gifted Democratic actor at Ford's Theater following a production of Our American Cousin.

Brilliant.

And I like how they never really mention that the staffers worked directly for Chuckie Schumer - only stating they work for the committee and in the last paragraph finally indicating that Chuckie Boy is the chairman (but never really getting to the point that these are Chuckie Schumer staffers).
