Blogging > The My Web Host Was Down Sitemeter Dip Blues

A few weeks ago my Web host had a major core router meltdown in their old hosting facility, which is where I was still hosted. They tried to fix it, got it sort of working, tried to get replacement parts, couldn't, and finally reverted to their all purpose contingency plan - throw all the servers into the back of a station wagon and race them over to the new improved hosting facility. I was partially or completely down for three days. That's why there's a big crater in my Sitemeter graph.

Post-crater, my traffic still hasn't recovered. I was at about 2,000 visitors per day, and now I'm down to about 1,100 per day. Lesson? Uh, don't have a major outage, I guess. It takes a while for traffic to recover. I don't blog for a living so it's no skin off my nose, but corporate Web sites lose money when their sites go offline.
