January 02, 2006Home Life > 2005 Things I Learned in 20051. This year I learned that if you have a sentence with a time element (like "this year") it's usually best to place it at the beginning of the sentence. 2. When you grow red and orange bell peppers they're green at first. You have to let them mature on the vine before they change color. 3. Instant mashed potato flakes are nearly as good as the real thing, and are just as good considering how much work they save. 4. Using the flash on a digital camera will eliminate many of the blurry pictures you normally get with indoor shots. Conversely, many outdoor shots look better lit with the flash turned off. 5. If you use a digital camera and Microsoft Windows, you really ought to download Google's free Picasa picture viewer/editor/cataloger. It's the best money you'll never spend. 6. You can't have too many batteries, and buying them in bulk is the only way to fly. The mega packs at Home Depot make great stocking stuffers. 7. Babies understand words before they can say them. Katie has never said "ball," but if we say "Katie, bring me the ball" she'll pick it up and bring it to us. 8. Control-Alt-End gives you the option to log out of a remote Windows session. 9. Top 10 lists don't have to have 10 items, and neither do top 2005 lists. Posted by lesjones | TrackBackComments
No kidding on #7. Me, the wife and junior were in the office right as junior learned to walk and I said something. Junior leaves the room and comes back with a stuffed dog. We're thought that was odd and wondered why. We realized I had said something that ended in 'dog'. So, we say go get the ball. She comes back with one. We say get the blanket, bottle, and all sorts of items. She dutifully went and got each one. Last night, I said 'can you turn off the TV' and she runs right up to it and turns it off. Amazing, she's never done it before and we don't really talk about the TV. Posted by: SayUncle at January 02, 2006With regard to #3, the ones they sell at Sam's Club are great. Can't remember the brandname and I'm to lazy to go to the kitchen and look, but they come in a large square milk carton-like container. Yum! (I have a Rayovac charger that takes 45 min. to charge 4 AA or AAA, and a Maxell, I think, high-speed charger that does it in 15 min. but I can't seem to find it at the moment) Posted by: R.
