News > How I Won a Dollar on "The Book of Daniel"

So Melissa and I watched "The Book of Daniel" tonight. If you've followed the ratings-increasing controversy you already know that the priest's son is gay.

If you watched the premier tonight you found out that one of the guys at the church embezzled millions of dollars from the church, ran off with his secretary, and was found in a hotel room ... uh, engaged in activities normally associated with gay men.

At that point I told Melissa that the HBO series "Six Feet Under" burned me out on excessive gay characters. Then I bet her that before tonight's two hour pilot was over there would be another gay character. She took the bet.

Sure enough. The embezzler and his wife were having threesomes with his secretary. Then it turns out that his wife and secretary had their own affair.

Easy money, baby.

Just to clarify Bi = Gay to you right?

I know there's a difference, but for purposes of the bet it was close enough.

Ok, after re-reading my comment I seemed a bit combative, was not my intent.
I totally see what you mean though, I don't watch a lot of TV period, but it seems like every show I flip past has much more than the token gay character.
Much More

No prob. It's fine with me to have gay characters on a show. Obviously there are gay people in the world. It's just that when every third character is gay it becomes a little absurd and the surprise value wears off.
