Dear Lazyweb > Firefox Keeps Going Back a Page

Dear Lazyweb,

Somehow I keep hitting some equivalent of the Back button when using Firefox on my home laptop. If I turn off the touchpad while writing it doesn't happen, so somehow it's related to the touchpad. (If it matters, the touchpad has a little scrolly strip on the right side.)

WTF?

Check and see if you if you have a mouse gestures plugin.

I know of no reason for it to do this unless, like Steve K. said, you installed either a mouse gesture extension or another extension that has a mouse gesture or two.

No mouse gestures installed.

Messing around, it seems like Shift key plus down scrolly strip is what's triggering the Back function. Looks like I need to disable that somehow.

Mice with more than three buttons (Left click, Right click, Wheel Click) do this. My mouse buttons four and five are interpreted as Back and Forward by Windows.

Shift + Scrolly area touch is probably being interpreted as Button 4. I'd look at the software settings provided by the laptop maker.

Good luck... I have a feeling that tonight is not the night that my brilliance will shine through. :)

I went into the Keyboard control panel and disabled scrolling. I never use it anyway, so no loss.

Thanks, guys.

Open up about:config and change to the following:

mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action 0
mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.sysnumlines true
