February 03, 2006Guns > Picture of NAA's Mini .32 Prototype
From NAA. The prototype weighs 16 ounces, which is about seven ounces lighter than a J frame S&W in stainless, but an ounce heavier than an aluminum-framed J. Kinda homely now, but I'd expect it to get more sleek as it gets closer to completion. The original specs called for a single action top break, thought it's hard to tell from the picture if that's what this is. Like I said before, this gun is interesting, but doesn't appeal to me in a world where there are double action J frames. Posted by lesjones | TrackBackComments
Hard to imagine that as a topbreak. Looks like a double-action trigger, too. What are these guys thinking? Posted by: Mike at February 03, 2006On second thought... that's probably a single-action trigger, judging by the limited space available in the trigger guard. When the gun is uncocked, the trigger has little room to come forward and still leave enough space for a finger. Also, look at that gap in the frame, just *forward* of the cylinder. That looks a lot like the cylinder is going to open to the side, like a traditional DA revolver. Posted by: Mike at February 03, 2006It's about 5 ozs heavier than a scandium J-frame. Is this a solution to a problem that doesn't exist? Posted by: Benson at February 03, 2006Mike: I'm the same way. I can't quite wrap my head around how that gun opens. I wonder if it's a top-break, but the whole top swings to the side, rather than swiveling forward. Benson: Yeah, weight-wise, I don't think it's going to make sense vs. the exotic S&W models. I can't imagine NAA getting into titanium any time soon. S&W actually deserves a lot of credit for pioneering some exotic metals. Posted by: Les Jones at February 03, 2006I was just going to say that - my model 360 in .357 Magnum weighs a full quarter pound less than this gun, and I'll take 5 rounds of .357 Magnum over .32 Magnum any day... Hurts like HELL when you shoot it, but if the bullet doesn't kill 'em, the muzzle flash will set their fucking clothes on fire... :) Posted by: Jay G at February 04, 2006yup, that's homely. Looking at it though, it's quite a bit narrower than a J, and shorter to boot. I've got a picture of my 432 nestled like that in my average-sized hands and it just dominates. Did anyone else note the lack of locking tabs on the cylinder? Looking at the notches for the front and rear, the *barely there* line for the top strap, and that there are two latches (rear, and front of triggerguard) I'm going to wager that the whole gun comes apart.... lower frame, and upper with barrel, topstrap, and cylinder.
