Tech > Have You Tried Windows XP ClearType?

The other week I enabled ClearType on my work computer, and now I'm hooked. I'm sort of shocked at how good it makes onscreen text look. Here's how to enable it, and here's a Microsoft tool for fine-tuning the settings for your monitor.

I like it. Makes those blogs with black background and light text easier on the eyes ;)

BTW, that tool to fine tune doesn't work for me. It tells me i have to enable it even though it already is.

Oddly enough, I think it really is more effective with light text on dark backgrounds.

Did you download the tool? The one that acted like it was going to run on the Web site didn't work for me, either.

Wow, it does make a difference!

I didn't even know that setting existed. At some point, I'm going to have to sit down for a few days and just go through every setting Windows XP has.

It's on my todo list right after cleaning all the gutters on the house.

I like it! After replacing my humongo CRT monitor with an LCD a couple of months ago, I was really disappointed with the text rendering. This makes it better.

The tool, like anything else accessed directly from microsoft.com, will only work if you are using explorer.
