Home Life > We Call Do-overs! Baby Name Do-overs!

So while sitting around the recovery room today, Melissa told me she was having second thoughts about Grace as a middle name. We had talked about Danielle as the middle name for most of the names we came up with. But we had already turned in the paperwork for the birth certificate. She also thought our families might get mad.

Long story short, we changed the middle name to Danielle. It only took about 20 minutes to make the change. The hospital called Nashville, filled out new paperwork, and took new footprints.

Better now than 10 years from now.

LATER: Steve K. has a story in comments, and Bob Krumm and TN Girl have stories over at Nashville is Talking. Until a month ago, I didn't realize you could take your baby home without a name. It winds up being called "Baby Boy Jones" or "Baby Girl Jones" or whatever until you decide on a name.

Ha Ha Ha Ha. That is so funny.

Congratulations, Les. I think both 'Grace' and 'Danielle' are both beautiful names.

I'm not sure why families would be mad at the use of 'Grace' in a name... I must be missing something.

Congrats again. Nothing you do for children is wasted. :)

What's funny is that after we changed it one of our relatives was relieved because she hadn't liked the name Grace anyway, but had been too polite to say anything.

Scott: It's not that they would be mad because it was Grace, just that Melissa thought they might be mad we had changed it from Grace (which wasn't the case at all). Turns out one relative was positively happy. :-)

Odd existential moments -- when Terri was in college, she got a copy of her birth certificate, and found out her real name was actually "Terrie".

And I missed out on the pile up yesterday, but congratulations, y'all. A kid couldn't ask for two finer parents.

I agree with Scott, both are pretty middle names. Daniella is a bit more unique, as Grace is widely used by parents.
