Home Life > Mini-van Fever - Catch It!

So now that we've got the second kid Melissa and I totally have mini-van fever. Melissa wouldn't hear of it when we first got married - she was driving a two-door Honda coupe with a "Use Condom Sense" bumper sticker. She softened a little after the first baby, and she totally turned around when we decided to have the second baby. When we brought the baby home from the hospital yesterday we drove through the parking lot of a Honda dealership to look at Odysseys.

We got a taste of what this was going to be like on the way back from Melissa's graduation. It was me, Melissa, my mom, and Katie in the car. Then we stopped at my mother-in-law's house in Seymour to pick up our dog. Then we went by the vet to get our cat, who we had boarded to get his shots and things done. Let me tell ya - three adults, one car seat, one medium dog, and one cat carrier is really pushing the limits of a mid-sized, four door American sedan. The trunk was packed, too.

With two kids in car seats, we can't take anyone else in the car with us - not even my mom, who lives with us. This is why families buy vehicles with three rows of seats. We've looked at SUVs, but now we think my mom would have too much trouble getting in and out of them. Mini-van, here we come.

Les, we (read: my wife) got a 2005 Odyssey a while back, and she loves it. I have to say, I was amazed at how well it handled when we went to test drive them.

Lots of cup holders.

Glad to hear the endorsement. Odyssey owners seem to be a happy bunch.

Check out the Ford Freestyle. Go drive one before you decide.

Another positive comment for the Odyssey. We have a nearly 5 year old one that has been flawless. My parents have a brand new one. My only beef is that the seats are pretty firm and not very comfortable for a 3 or 4 hour drive.
