Funny Ha-Ha > Alternate History of Disco

lippsinc.jpg

March, 1980 - Lipps, Inc. has a disco hit with "(Want You Take Me to) Funkytown."

June, 1980 - Pat Boone records a response song, "(Madam, I'd Be Delighted to Take You to) Funkytown. (At What Time Should I Arrive?)."

August, 1980 - During an appearance on Solid Gold, Lipps, Inc. answers with "(Want You Take Me to) Funkytown (at 9:00)."

22778_thumb.jpgSeptember, 1980 - The issue of Rolling Stone with Billy Joel on the cover includes a flexidisc of Pat Boone's "(Okay, I'll Pick You Up at 9:00 and Take You to) Funkytown."

And that's how Pat Boone met his wife, and they had a baby, and that baby became the first disco president of the United States.

Bonus! Via IMDB: "If you want to play Funkytown on a keypad (f.e. the one of a telephone),like Towelie did in one Episode just type 55754 45085." That really works. Listen to the video to hear the rhythm. I found it was easier to look at the keypad and remember the pattern, rather than trying to remember the numbers.

P.S. The band's official Web site is funkytown.com, and it's awesome.

Perhaps my most favorite song from the 80s.
