Home Life > Yard Sales

Katherine Coble live-blogged her family's yardsale. She pretty much captured the entire yard sale experience except for the part where someone steals something. Maybe she just didn't notice.

At our first yardsale this little old lady tried to rip off a Barbie lunchbox as she walked away. I asked Melissa if she had paid for it. She hadn't. I stopped her. She tried to act surprised that the $5 lunchbox wasn't included in the $2.80 bill for the five other things she bought. Right, because she negotiated for cents off everything else, but not for the most expensive thing.

Next yardsale a couple of guys buy something, then as they're leaving throw an old-fashioned baby carriage into their pickup and drive off without paying for it. What is up with some people? We're practically giving this stuff away and they feel compelled to steal it.

After the third yardsale I was completely over it. As Melissa and her mom started the planning I offered to give them $100 each for everything and take it to Goodwill if they'd just give up on the idea entirely. They took the money.
