This reminds me of the Robert Conquest story. There are a couple of versions of it (and it may be an urban legend), but: when Conquest's publisher was preparing a revised edition of his book, *The Great Terror*, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the publisher asked Conquest if he had any suggestions for a new title.
Conquest is said to have responded, "How about 'I told you so, you f---ing fools'?"
