E-commerce > Mark Cuban: "anyone who buys YouTube is a moron"

From CNET via Slashdot.

Billionaire investor and dot-com veteran Mark Cuban had harsh words Thursday for YouTube, the online site that lets people share video clips, saying only a "moron" would purchase the wildly popular start-up.

Cuban, co-founder of HDNet and owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, also said YouTube would eventually be "sued into oblivion" because of copyright violations.

"They are just breaking the law," Cuban told a group of advertisers in New York. "The only reason it hasn't been sued yet is because there is nobody with big money to sue."

Good point about the copyright issues.

I'm still waiting to see how they plan to make money. If they start charging for people to upload and store clips, it will disappear pretty quick. They have some advertising, but it doesn't look like much. I think I read somewhere that their bandwidth bill is something like $12 million per month.

A clever idea, though, and some pretty cool technology.

Seems a lot like Napster: everyone loves the free, copyrighted material, but not many people would pay.

I'd still like YouTube as a place to get free bandwidth for home videos, but like you say, that's not the sort of thing they'll rake in money with.
